Pride Park in Full Flow
Trader Column
Written by RamsTrust Secretary Jim Wheeler

One thing that certainly seems to be changed at Derby County now is ‘leveraging the assets’ as our business owners would probably term it. When attending Pride Park for the kids’ ‘Play on the Pitch’ event, not only were the pitch and the stands being used for the event, but simultaneously the interior of the stadium was being used for a beauty fair. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there weren’t other suites being used at the same time.

As we left, there were also queues of children developing outside the ground for a further football event using the pitch. It is certainly encouraging to see the stadium used to maximum benefit – both for the club (making money) and to give people the opportunity to use the stadium – this all improves ‘the brand’ of Derby County.

It was disappointing however, that no one from the club was present for the event. Despite promotion in the club programme to encourage fans to come along, not a single Director, Manager or player was there to take the opportunity to meet with fans in a relaxed setting outside the rigours of the season.

It would certainly have been appreciated and enjoyed had they bothered. Even Rammie only made a fleeting appearance. It is also questionable whether we had any scouts on hand, as there were clearly 1 or 2 very talented footballers within the Rams’ fans present!

Maybe a point to note for next year…
