The Derby Evening Telegraph publishes a column by RamsTrust every week on Tuesdays on its dedicated Derby County website. and the Trader Group of free newspapers publishes a weekly column by RamsTrust.

The Trader column is for individual members of RamsTrust to put their point of view across in the media. Although the views will not contravene the principles of the trust, the views expressed are entirely personal to the author and do not necessarily represent RamsTrust policy.

With the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy approaching, Rams supporters attending the upcoming game at Sheffield Wednesday might reflect on the events of 15th April 1989, when 96 people died in Britain’s worst-ever stadium-related disaster. Has football learned its harsh lesson?

Possibly the most eagerly awaited football-related film ever (particularly in Leeds or Derby) opened this week ‘The Damned United’ is based on the book by  David Peace but is a very different portrayal. Watching the film will probably  feel strange to most Derby fans – it is a ‘Hollywood’ adaptation of the truth –  as indeed the book was a fictional representation of actual events.

Football used to be fun, until the closing days of the season. Burton has done well, but has shown some signs of faltering. Derby County has struggled but is improving.
