The victory over Coventry City was a satisfying first win for Nigel Clough. The win was thoroughly deserved – and hopefully we will be able to put games to bed in future without the nail-biting finish. Chris Porter – Nigel’s first signing – must have been licking his lips in the stand as he saw so many opportunities being created. We are yet to see him in action, but from the reports he could be the target man we have been missing up front since Stevie Howard left.

Seldom can a team have been relegated with so little histrionics, so few lachrymose moments and so many shrugs of the shoulder. Last Saturday when relegation was finally confirmed – and finally is perhaps the wrong word when the Rams were relegated at the earliest point of any club in the history of the Premiership with still six games to go – there was an air of resignation around Pride Park as fans accepted it was never going to end any other way.

Congratulations to Burton for their record breaking win last weekend. The Derby connection, with the appointment of Roy McFarland, will, I hope, finish what Nigel Clough has started and see the Brewers in the Football League proper.

Robbie SavageI’ve never been Robbie Savage’s number one fan. I used to find his behaviour infuriating and his lifestyle-type interviews were always irritating and shallow with his Armani tattoo, flowing blonde locks and penchant for leopard-skin prints. The frequency with which people seemed to get sent off for tackling him and penalties were awarded for him being allegedly upended indicated a young man with an over-inflated ego and a penchant for gamesmanship.
