The Derby Evening Telegraph publishes a column by RamsTrust every week on Tuesdays on its dedicated Derby County website. and the Trader Group of free newspapers publishes a weekly column by RamsTrust.

The Trader column is for individual members of RamsTrust to put their point of view across in the media. Although the views will not contravene the principles of the trust, the views expressed are entirely personal to the author and do not necessarily represent RamsTrust policy.

This season, Derby County’s fans have earned infinitely more credit than the beleaguered assortment of players that have turned out, but seldom turned up, in the club’s kit. Rams’ supporters have displayed tremendous loyalty at home and away this season, baffling the rest of the football world with an almost pathological capacity for masochism as their team’s slide back to the Championship accelerated weekly.

Last week, Derby County put their scratchy league form behind them and produced a gritty performance against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in order to progress through to the semi-final of the Carling League Cup for the first time in 41 long years.

One year on and the euphoria of the Wembley victory has faded into history. We were on a high having won the most profitable football match in the world and had a summer of high expectation. Now we are officially the worst team in the record books and are the butt of everyone’s jokes.

Surely with the Three Amigos crisis in the past and the finances of the club on a more stable footing, there is nothing for RamsTrust to do? That would be the case if RamsTrust were a protest group but it isn't - and it never was.
