Kick It Out’s One Game, One Community Social Unity Campaign is now on!
Saturday, October 15 2011

Kick It OutKick It Outs anti-racism campaign programme for 2011 is now under way - the annualWeeks of Actionwere launched on October 13th, with many more activities taking place across the UK and internationally until October 31st.

KIO is one of the most highly visible community and social inclusion campaigns in the world. The action period sees grass roots football join the professional game throughout the UK; teams and leagues across the continent are also supporting the united stand against any discrimination taking root within the sport.

Throughout the 18-day period, many professional clubs are contributing by holding match-day events at their dedicated One Game, One Community weeks of action fixture, with a horde of teams already confirming their activities. At grass roots level, a number of “thought leadership” seminars, football tournaments and fan and community-led activity will take place.

As ever, the KIO campaign is calling upon the support of its club ambassadors during the weeks of action. This year, they are as diverse as ever, including Newcastle United brothers Shola and Sammy Ameobi, Nottingham Forest midfielder Guy Moussi, Colchester United’s Kemal Izzet and Cheltenham Town ace Kaid Mohamed.

They’ll all be donning brand new One Game, One Community t-shirts to help deliver the message of inclusion through our national sport to fans in the stands, in their homes, schools and everywhere else within our diverse society.

On KIO’s launch date, Ford’s Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) motor plant in Dagenham invited local youngsters to meet various sporting and entertainment figures in order to participate in a whole range of activities and workshops. Attending celebrities included West Ham’s Kevin Nolan, Watford legend Luther Blissett and former Chelsea star Paul Elliott.

Further events will include the Gay Supporters Football Network’s (GFSN) anti-homophobia awareness football competition (Clapham) and the Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation’s (MWSF) Futsal (5-a-side football) tournament in Birmingham.

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton is linking up with the Black and Asian Coaches Association (BACA) coaching masterclass at Villa Park, and there is a raft of One Game, One Community games over the second weekend, including regional KIO football competitions in Milton Keynes and Southampton.

In the final week, Queens Park Rangers present a Gypsy Roma and Traveller (GRT) day and boxing legend Barry McGuigan joins KIO for its Faith in Football conference at Birmingham City’s stadium; Hull University will host an international students' football tournament and there’s a Barnado's 5-a-side competition in Kidderminster.

At the month end there’s another weekend full of KIO games, Stoke City will close this year’s initiative by holding a balloon release from the centre circle of the Britannia Stadium prior to their live TV match against Newcastle United on October 31st.

Derby County's own designated "One Game, One Community" match is against Portsmouth on October 29th; Rams players will be donning their KIO T-shirts before the kick-off. Club staff will also sport KIO pin badges in further acknowledgement of the collective effort to ensure that the sport is conducted within a tolerant and friendly environment. After all, as Nigel Clough says, football's future generation of players and supporters is dependent upon this.

RamsTrust continues to endorse and support the KIO campaign in all its colourful variety. We always offer free KIO badges and literature - as well as selling T-shirts, patches and keyrings - at our events throughout the year.
