Francis Lee CBE (29 April 1944 – 2 October 2023)

RamsTrust is sorry to learn of the death of Francis Lee who played a key role in the winning of our second league title in 1974/75. His on-pitch battle with Norman Hunter is an outstanding memory in our history – everyone who was there remembers it well.

Stuart Webb, former Derby County club secretary, chief executive, director and chairman – and now an external director of RamsTrust, describes Franny as ‘one of my better signings!’.

‘He played such massive role in the club winning the title almost 50 years ago and was a warrior who scored many crucial goals, and was a leader and winner in the dressing room. Franny and Dave Mackay hit it off immediately, two formidable characters on and off the field…the dream team.’

‘Franny added strength of character to the already powerful squad, he galvanised the dressing room and took the club to another level, creating a winning mentality. A football legend who served the Rams and the game with distinction’.

Franny Lee made 80 appearances for the Rams over two seasons, scoring 30 goals including this legendary Match of the Day moment.

Thanks for the memories, Franny. RIP.
