Board Profile – Steve Kitson
Day job: Head of IT & Business and Geography lead at a Multi-Academy Trust in the north of England.
Expertise: I run the Derby County Memories website which documents the history of the Rams through items of memorabilia.
First Rams game: Derby v Tottenham Hotspur 27 October 1993 in the Coca-Cola (League) Cup third round. We lost 1-0, Nick Barmby scored the winner.
Favourite Rams match/memory: The promotion winning game against Crystal Palace at the Baseball Ground on Sunday 28 April 1996 (and the ensuing celebrations in the Market Place several days later). Derby had to win to ensure automatic promotion to the Premier League. An early goal from Dean Sturridge settled the nerves, then a Robbie van der Laan header from a corner in the second half gave Derby a 2-1 win and created wonderful memories for an entire generation of Rams fans. The whole game can be viewed here as part of Derby County’s matchday relived series.
Favourite Rams player: Igor Stimac – a classy defender whose confidence/arrogance made everyone around him play better.
Joined RamsTrust Board: September 2023
Reason for joining the Board: I joined RamsTrust in May 2021 after becoming frustrated with the lack of communication from the club regarding a potential takeover. As a long-distance supporter, I understand how important it is to feel connected to Derby County when not living in the city. I have a background in web design and wanted to use my skills to contribute to the growth of RamsTrust to ensure that supporters have their voice heard by Derby County.
