Board Profile – Tom Bestwick

Day job: PR and Content Manager for a leading UK building society
Expertise: Brand, communications, and marketing strategy development
First Rams game: Very unglamorous! It was a 1-1 draw between Derby and Preston North End at Pride Park. Remember Claude Davis? He opened the scoring for PNE before Tommy Smith (my favourite player at that time) rescued a point from the penalty spot. I got my first season ticket the following year.
Favourite Rams match/memory: A tough one to answer. The easy choice would be to say the promotion at Wembley in 2007 but the game that immediate comes to mind is the FA Cup match between Nottingham Forest and Derby in February 2009, when we came back from two goals down to win 3-2. Kris Commons scoring the winner was the icing on the cake of a wonderful night.
Favourite Rams player: I’m blessed to have watched as a supporter but got closer to everything as a Derby County communications officer between 2010 and 2014. I think I’m going to lean towards a player from my time working at the club because I got to see what these players were like as people – not just footballers. I’m going to choose Will Hughes. I’m not sure the academy has produced many better talented.
Joined Board: October 2025
Reason for joining the Board: I had been away from football for a little while (since 2018) but had an urge to get back involved in an area I could make a difference. For me, that is with a group like RamsTrust that is making a difference for the supporter experience. Aside from that, I believe I can make my own tangible difference to the Trust, helping in its growth, particularly across digital, to engage fans in new and exciting ways.
