Investment Discussions – what RamsTrust is doing
Rumours about a possible new investor in Derby County surfaced in May. RamsTrust was immediately contacted by members to ask what we knew about the situation, with the answer being – then and now – “the same as anyone else”!
A discussion was started on our RamsTrust Active email list and we asked for views from the membership. We’d like to thank everyone for their considered responses, with a range of diverse views and perspectives being covered.
We knew from past experience that it was unlikely the Club would respond to comments about individual investors, so we asked the Supporters’ Board to put forward the following question from RamsTrust on your behalf:
You previously shared with us what good investment looks like from Derby County’s perspective – can you explain in more detail about the steps you take to ensure that any investments fit in with the three pillars of integrity, progress and stability?
The Supporters’ Board met on 1st June, during which ours and other questions sent directly to the Supporters’ Board around investment were discussed. The notes of that meeting are now available on the Derby County website here.
We also received a response from the Supporters’ Board as follows:
In the meeting we raised the question that you sent in. The club referred to the process that the IFR and EFL would undertake (which we accept is important) but we made it clear that in our opinion that was a separate process to the owner and club deciding on a suitable investor into the club. We expressed that we thought it important that the club share the process and reasons for any decision with supporters at an appropriate moment. This is covered in the notes above. The club didn’t elaborate any further than that. I have also sent the question directly to the club and asked that it be sent to the owners and they agreed to do this.
We will continue to seek the views of our members about potential investment – and investors – as more information becomes available, in order to ask further questions through the Supporters’ Board.
