Supporters Board – update

Supporters Board – update

At the last Derby County Supporters Charter Group meeting, it was decided that the process of implementing a new Supporters Board for the club will continue.

Welcoming this announcement, RamsTrust Chair, Hilary Leam, said:

“A Supporters Board will enable greater dialogue and constructive challenge on governance issues at Derby County, supporting David Clowes and any future owners to ensure that the club is run in the long-term interests of its fans.

“A Supporters Board will help to safeguard the future of Derby County, which is Derby and Derbyshire’s beating heart and should always be treated accordingly by its custodians.

“We appreciate David’s recognition of the potential benefits of the Supporters Board model and desire to position Derby as a leader, not a follower, after the recent Fan-Led Review of football governance listed a Supporters Board among its strategic recommendations to be formed at all clubs across the country.

“The Supporters Board will work alongside the Supporters Charter Group, which will continue its important work around other supporter liaison matters. There are still more details to be worked through, including how a diverse range of views are represented on the Supporters Board and we look forward to working in partnership with other groups and the club while these are finalised.”

External Director of RamsTrust, Stuart Webb, added:

“The creation of a Supporters Board for Derby County is a massive step forward. Congratulations to David Clowes for his continued vision in bringing the fans and the club together.

“Derby County is at the heart of the community in Derby and Derbyshire. However, history records that events have not always been smooth on and off the field for the Rams… Fortunately, we have had more than our fair share of titles and trophies along the way!

“The Rams have an outstanding history and have built up a fabulous fanbase. Recognising that the fans have a role to play in the overall tapestry of the club is a step in the right direction.”
